All in the family.
National Park Roadtrip – Day 8-9
Torrance
Mileage Day 8: 42,459
Yahtzee Games: 0 (For those who know us, this is getting a little ridiculous. We have not had time to play Yahtzee. We also have been exhausted at the end of the day. A lack of time and energy is just another one of those things that I did not anticipate. So I think I’ll leave our number of Yahtzee games out of the posts from here on out. They just don’t seem that important anymore, especially as I edit this post on Day 23 and we have yet to play one game of Yahtzee.)
I’m wondering if people are asking themselves why we motored through California like it was going out of style. For starters, California will never be out of style and second, we made a very important date with my niece and nephew on February 4th. We wanted to land there on a Saturday so they could spend the night in our trailer on a weekend night. We also got to hang out with my parents and their new puppy who were visiting my sister at the same time. Lots of firsts happened in Torrance for us. It was the first time we “camped” in someone’s front yard. I’m sure my sister’s neighbors were exceedingly amused as we hauled all our laundry into her house and went back and forth most of the afternoon. It was the first time we needed to do laundry on the trip so we used her washer/dryer. We also relished in the nicely appointed bathroom facilities (shared with niece and nephew). I give these facilities a rating of a “9”. I would have rated them a “10”, but in looking for floss I found a seasoning packet for chicken flavored ramen in my niece’s drawer so…
It was also the first time we got to use the bunk beds. Obviously, we are just the two of us and the dogs. The four of us all sleep in the king bed together, much to the chagrin of G. We try to pile up nice fluffy blankets on the bottom bunk bed for them, but they just can’t quit us. Especially Scarlett. She is a princess that feels she should never ever have to sleep apart from us. As a result, we’ve never used the bunk bed, and we just use the bottom bunk/convertible dinette to stash our clothes, extra pantry space for food, and the dog food. We’ve never even set up the dinette either. We regularly eat outside and on cool or rainy nights we eat inside using the kitchen counter as a plate rest. But on Saturday the 4th, we cleared off everything on the bottom bunk, set up the top bunk, and flipped a coin to see who got the privilege of sleeping in the top bunk. Niece won the toss so nephew was on the bottom. In the morning, he proclaimed he liked the bottom bunk better because it was like it’s own little enclosed fort and he had more space. G woke up early to get gas and get some hot chocolate for the kids and caffeinated beverages for the adults. Then G showed the kids the condensation on the inside of the windows and proclaimed it was their hot stinky breath that put it there. They laughed. We tumbled inside with our hot drinks. My mom made us breakfast. We packed the trailer and left without a trace. We hope.
